October Photo Challenge: Day 30 - Self-Portrait

Well, the 30 Day Photo Challenge is officially over!  I had a lot of fun with it, and it was pretty challenging to try to come up with all kinds of different picture ideas.  I wish I would have pushed myself more in some cases, but maybe that's just an excuse to do another round of the challenge, eh?!  Regardless, it was a blast, and it was so awesome to see so many people participate and share their amazing photos as well.  Congratulations to everyone for finishing the challenge!  =)

October Photo Challenge: Day 29 - Black and White

I'm not 100% thrilled with how this picture looks in black and white (maybe it would have been better in a warmer sepia?) but it's good enough for now.  Mr. L and I are exhausted from our day of seeing loved ones and saying goodbye at our going away luau our parents threw for us, which is the main reason why this picture is late today.  Better late than never, though!

Today's photo is from an iPhone, unedited, and not from a very far distance, but I still had to share!

It's a picture of a family waiting on their soldier at the airport that we witnessed tonight. I so wish we could have seen the reunion, but unfortunately we had to leave. God bless you, Staff Sergeant, and welcome home!

October Photo Challenge: Day 22 - Hands

Today's shot inspired me to share a poem that many of you probably already know.  I first heard it after my friend Bonnie shared it with me a little while after she and her husband got married.

Blessing of the Hands, revised by Reverend Daniel L. Harris

“These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever.

October Photo Challenge: Day 20 - Bokeh

Today's assignment seemed intimidating when I first read it back at the beginning of the challenge.  I'm absolutely 100% an amateur photographer, so I didn't even really know what bokeh is.  But as I was going through and editing pictures I'd taken of my brother and SIL for her maternity session, I realized I didn't need to be intimidated -- I'd already showcased an example of bokeh in one of those photos!

I'm going to play around a little more today and see if I can get more examples of bokeh with my camera.  Wish me luck!  =)

October Photo Challenge: Day 17 - Technology

This picture was inspired by the iPhone Faces Project, created by Michael Miville.  As soon as I first saw this project, I knew it would be a fun idea to attempt to recreate eventually, so thanks to this challenge, I got off my butt and attempted it =)  Thanks for your help, Mr. L...love ya!

October Photo Challenge: Day 16 - Long Exposure

So after my original idea didn't pan out for this shot, I decided to take Mr. L out to the backyard and play with some flashlights!  (Also, oops!  Another last minute post, yikes!)

(Mr. L's attempt at a heart, which he declared actually looks more like a peach instead...)

This was my absolute first experience with using long exposure, so I really had no idea what I was doing.  I kept playing around with the ISO and whatnot, and the background always came out green like that.  Is it just the lighting that was outside (moonlight + a fluorescent shed light)?  Also, if you have any tips for me on how I can make better long exposure shots, please leave them in the comments!  They're such an awesome concept, and I'd love to shoot more like them, just better than this, obviously!

October Photo Challenge: Day 14 - Eyes

Since Mr. L and I are leaving today to see some wonderful friends of ours (and to go to the Auburn-Florida football game!), I wasn't able to retake a picture of my nephew and add much more detail like I wanted to.  So!  Here is another one I took about a month ago, right after my SIL's pseudo-maternity session I photographed.  I will definitely be editing this post with an updated picture as soon as I can, however!



I just love his eyes so much!  They're gorgeous.  I definitely wish I'd gotten it in better lighting though (or owned a better flash haha), but I know what to do better next time at least!  =)

Since today was pretty busy (this morning involved a vet trip for poor Liam =( ) I didn't get a chance to take an awesomely creative picture outside in the sunlight like I wanted.  So here is a super recent picture of Mr. L and I in Philadelphia at the Love Statue with at least 13 people, including a bride!  =)
